Round Brilliant Cut diamonds, sapphires, rubies, tanzanites etc. The popular choice, particuarly for diamonds. Older less faceted versions of the modern brilliant are known as old cuts and mine Cuts.

Princess Cut diamonds and sapphires. Another popular choice, the princess cut has the refractive qualities of a brilliant cut in a square shape.

Emerald (Step) Cut diamonds, sapphire, rubies, emeralds, aquamarines etc. Emerald cuts are very popular in nearly every precious stone, and require good clarity stones to look their best. Not so refractive so often used in combination with other cuts.

Asscher (Square Emerald) Cut diamonds. Originally cut by The Asscher brothers in 1902 this diamond cut has become more popular in recent times. Also known as a square emerald cut.  
  Radiant Cut diamonds. Developed in 1977 by Henry Grossbard. Many radiant cuts are cut with nearly square shapes, but always have clipped corners. Intended be refractive like a brilliant but from an emerald cut shape.

Oval Cut diamonds, sapphire, rubies, emeralds and aquamarines etc A well cut oval stone can be nearly as bright as a well cut round brilliant shape, the angles are closer to ideal for the maximum optical effect that well cut diamonds can produce

Pear Shaped diamonds, sapphire, rubies, emeralds, aquamarines, and semi-precious stones. A popular cut that looks like a tear drop. This is a traditional cut which is perfect for pendants, colouration tends to show more in pear shapes so the whiter the better.

Marquise Cut diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds A marquise should have an aspect ratio of 2:1 for the classic shape, but shorter is always better than long  
  Heart Shaped diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. Heart shaped brilliants are similar to pear shapes, the reason cutters may choose a Heart shape over a Pear may be that the rough diamond contained an inclusion located in the cleft.

Trillian, Trillion or Trilliant Cut diamond, sapphires, rubies and aquamarines and semi-precious stones. Trillian and other variations of this more modern cut are based upon a brilliant style cut and make excellet side stones in larger designs. Some have rounded edges.

Square Cut diamonds, sapphire, rubies, emeralds, aquamarines and semi-precious stones. A simple step-cut square can be ideal for precious and semi-precious stones. Less bright than the princess cut, but very beautiful.

Baguette Cut diamonds and sapphires. Baguettes tend to have stepped facets, like emerald cut and are used in eternity rings and as side stones for bigger ring designs

Tapered Baguette diamonds and sapphires Like the standard baguette cut these stones are excellent for mounting in ring shanks and help to highlight a bigger central stone.
